Payment methods
Available payment methods
We offer various payment methods, depending on your country and the time of your booking. In some countries, you will be charged a fee, depending on your selected payment method.
When booking your ticket via KLM.com, we accept payment via MasterCard, Visa, and American Express credit cards. Depending on the country where you make your booking, you may also use a Diners Club, Discover, JCB (Japan Credit Bureau), or UATP/Airplus card. Note that a credit card surcharge may apply.
Extra security
Some banks offer you an additional security measure in the form of a PIN code or (one-time) password. By using this, both the bank and us know that you are the rightful owner or user of the card.
Is your card eligible for the "Visa Secure", "Mastercard Identity Check", or "American Express SafeKey" security measure? Your payment will only be accepted if the correct code or password is entered. For more information, we recommend contacting your bank.
Payment reservation
Within a few days after booking your ticket, your bank account will be charged with the amount needed for your purchase. Your bank reserves this amount until we finalise your payment, after which your account will officially be charged. This may take up to 30 days.
When purchasing multiple tickets in 1 transaction, some banks wrongly reserve the amount twice: once for the total amount and once per every individual ticket. Unfortunately, this procedure is outside our control. We advise contacting your bank to request the release of the reserved amount.
Online banking, also called “Real Time Online Banking" (RTOB), allows you to pay via iDEAL, FPX, CUP Online, Nordea, eNets, Trustly, or Sofort. Payment by RTOB is free of charge when booking via KLM.com. You can use this payment method up to 2 hours before departure.
After selecting your flight, choose the online banking method applicable to your country. Once the bank informs us that the payment has been made, you will receive your e-ticket via e-mail. In most countries, this process usually takes less than 1 hour.
You pay via our partners Worldline ePayments or Adyen when using online banking.
With an E-Wallet, you can combine various payment options, such as your credit card and bank account. You can use the following E-Wallets:
- PayPal: accepted on KLM.com in around 40 countries (not possible with American Express cards)
- Apple Pay: accepted in the KLM app in specific countries
- Google Pay: accepted in the KLM app in specific countries
- WeChat Pay: accepted in China only
- Alipay: accepted in China and Hong Kong (only local credit and debit cards)
Please make sure you can pay the total amount with your E-Wallet. Some E-Wallets limit the amount you can pay at once. As soon as your E-Wallet provider informs us that the payment has been made, you will receive your e-ticket via e-mail. This process usually takes less than 1 hour.
In most cases, you can pay by bank transfer if there are at least 10-14 days between booking and departure.
If you opt to pay by bank transfer, you need to enter several details. Naturally, all information is treated confidentially. Once the reservation is complete, you will receive a payment reference code of 12 numbers and/or letters. This code is used to locate the correct booking for the payment transferred. Therefore, make sure you enter this code correctly when making the transfer.
Once you have received the payment reference code, you can transfer the money from your bank account. This can be done using online banking, a transfer form, or a cash transaction at your bank. Make sure to finalise the payment within 48 hours after making your booking.
Your bank may charge a transfer fee when using bank transfers. You are always charged a "cross border transfer" fee on top of the ticket price for international transfers. Your bank will be able to provide you with more information about this.
If we do not receive the total amount, your ticket issuance may be delayed. Once the total amount has been received, you will be sent your e-ticket via e-mail. It may take up to 5 business days after payment before receiving your e-ticket.
With bank transfers, you usually pay through our partner Worldline ePayments. In some countries, you need to transfer money directly to us: Aruba, Bonaire, Chile, China, Curacao, Egypt, Ecuador, Ghana, Indonesia, Iran, Kenya, Korea, Oman, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Saint Martin, Suriname, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, and Zambia. Your payment is safe in all instances.
It’s not possible to pay for insurance via a bank transfer.
You can pay by cash or using your bank card with PIN code at a KLM Ticket Office after making your online booking. If you want to pay at the Ticket Office, make sure to bring along the booking confirmation or booking code you received by e-mail. There is usually no fee charged for cash or PIN payments.
Note that not all Ticket Offices accept cash payments. We accept PIN payments at our offices in the Netherlands only.
About Worldline ePayments and Adyen
Are you using online banking, payment via E-wallets, or bank transfers? You pay via our partners Worldline ePayments or Adyen. They process online payments and payment information on our behalf. We use the online services of the worldwide Worldline ePayments and Adyen network to ensure that your payment takes place as efficiently and safely as possible.
Your payment details will safely be sent to Worldline ePayments or Adyen. They will only be used to process the transaction; they will never be disclosed or forwarded to third parties or used for commercial purposes. We will send your ticket to you by e-mail once we have received confirmation of the total payment.
Frequently asked questions
We don’t have a payment method that allows you to pay in instalments. We do support credit card payments. You can check with your credit card provider when you need to pay off your purchase.
